The Power To Go The Distance

We are proud to recognize Carey Pinkowski, Executive Race Director of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, as he celebrates his 30th anniversary at the helm of this iconic event. During his tenure, the Chicago Marathon has experienced astronomical growth, expanding from 6000 registered runners in 1990 to a record 45,700 finishers in 2019, including runners from all 50 states and more than 120 countries.

In honor of this achievement, we presented Carey with a giant portrait designed in partnership with local Chicago artist, Jake Merten, in addition to a $30,000 donation to the Mercy Home For Boys and Girls that we made on his behalf.

This custom piece, which symbolizes the countless runners inspired by his passion, was created with official 2019 Chicago Marathon Nike Zoom Fly 3 running shoes and with the help of Carey's family and closest colleagues.

Thanks to Carey’s stewardship and spectator-friendly course design, which runs through 29 city neighborhoods, more than 1.7 million spectators join the runners in what has become an annual gathering for the entire City of Chicago.

Bank of America is proud to honor Carey Pinkowski for his power to go the distance in creating and sustaining a world-class race.
