Bank of America began serving Michigan nearly 120 years ago. In 1893, Standard Federal Bank opened in downtown Detroit. It received a national charter in 1950 and continued to grow into one of the largest banks in the Midwest. Standard Federal was acquired by LaSalle Bank of Chicago in 2005 and became part of the Bank of America family two years later. Today, Bank of America is one of the nation’s largest financial institutions and provides services to half of all American households.
