Hard at Work in Illinois

Bank of America began serving Illinois more than 150 years ago. Merchants Savings, Loan and Trust, founded by Chicago’s first mayor, was instrumental in helping the city rebuild after the Great Fire of 1871. By guaranteeing all deposits, the bank solidified its commitment to Chicago, and in 1928, it became one of the biggest banks in the Midwest, Continental Illinois Bank. LaSalle Bank, another predecessor, demonstrated the same commitment during the Great Depression. Continental Illinois and LaSalle Bank became part of the Bank of America family in 1994 and 2007. Today, Bank of America is one of the nation’s largest financial institutions and provides services to half of all American households.
