A technical college with a human mission

For Augusta Tech, serving its community means connecting students and local businesses.

Since its founding in 1961, Augusta Technical College, known as Augusta Tech, has been committed to the idea that partnering with local industries in this mid-sized Georgia city to attract and retain a younger workforce is integral to keeping the community viable. That’s why for more than 15 years, Bank of America has worked with the two-year academic and technical college to help it offer training tailored to the needs of local businesses and industries, and to assist students with job placement.

Augusta Tech is focused on issues of inequity, job instability and the need for stronger supply chains supported by local manufacturing. With funding from Bank of America through its Neighborhood Champion grant, Augusta Tech has refurbished its Programmable Logic Control (PLC) lab in the Economic Development Division’s Center for Advanced Technology. The PLC lab supports students as they increase their skill sets and job prospects for manufacturing positions that are becoming more technical and software-dependent. The same Neighborhood Champion grant is creating and developing opportunities for Augusta Tech’s own staff.

This program is part of Bank of America’s five-year, $1.25 billion commitment to advance racial equality and economic opportunity.
