Determination Spells Success for a Burgeoning Business
Aug 24, 2012
Ahmed Hassan had a dream to escape minimum wage and start a business that would fulfill a vital need in his community. Together with his father and brother, he conceived Virgo Medical – a reliable, safe ambulance services for the densely populated area surrounding East Orange, New Jersey. 13 years since its founding, Virgo Medical has grown rapidly. Today the company is adding new jobs as it works to keep pace with increased demands for its services from hospitals, patients, and veterans in the area.
When the company signed its first multi-million dollar piece of business it turned to Bank of America to secure financing to hire more staff and purchase more ambulances. Since then, Virgo has partnered with the Bank to meet its various financial needs, including payroll services, a commercial credit card, and a lease line for its expanding fleet of vehicles.
“Bank of America came in and assisted us,” said Hassan of Virgo Medical Services. “They believe in us, and saw that we were working many hours and were driven to make our business successful. That’s when the bank stepped in with capital and ideas for growing our business.”
Through its partnership with Bank of America, Virgo Medical has been able to keep pace with growth, which has had a positive economic and social impact on the community.
The family business contributes to the local economy with some 100 employees, who, in turn, pay taxes and support local businesses in East Orange. Virgo is also a good neighbor in the community: they support local businesses, maintain deep relationships with local elected officials, as well as the local faith-based community.
“I like to provide solutions,” said Domenico Martignetti, with Bank of America’s small business banking group. “The best part of my relationship with Virgo is that they make me feel like part of their family. They have shown their trust in me, and that gives me the opportunity to help them grow.”
