Bank of America Helps Fight Hunger, Matching Contributions 2:1 in Partnership with Feeding America

Nov 12, 2012

This holiday season, Bank of America is continuing to address the critical issue of hunger in local communities through its exclusive sponsorship of Feeding America’s Give a Meal™ campaign. Feeding America is the nation’s leading domestic hunger relief charity, with more than 200 member food banks serving all 50 states. And donors who support the Give a Meal Campaign can choose to direct their gifts either to Feeding America or to a Feeding America-affiliated food bank in their local community.

Making three times the difference

Thanks to the efficiency of Feeding America’s network, where most of the food and grocery products are donated, every $1 helps provide eight meals. This year, as last year, the impact will be tripled. For every $1 donated through the campaign, Bank of America will donate an additional $2 to Feeding America or the local food bank—up to a maximum of $1.5 million. So a donation of $10 will now help provide 240 meals. Bank of America is also making an initial contribution of $1 million to the organization.

In last year’s campaign, Bank of America helped raise almost $3.5 million in individual and company donations during the holiday season. The bank helped raise more than $985,000 in individual donations from 8300 customers, employees and other community members. Thanks to the 2:1 matching, the effort provided more than 19 million meals to individuals and families at risk of hunger.

Addressing a critical need

The need for hunger relief remains acute. Today, more than 50 million people in America—1 in 6—are hungry or experiencing limited access to safe, nutritional food. Of those, 17 million are children.

Bank of America has long been committed to fighting hunger. The bank takes a holistic approach to hunger relief by making direct grants to non-profits, by helping people take advantage of government programs, by collaborating with other corporate funders, and by encouraging engagement by employee volunteers who give thousands of hours each year to food relief organizations.

To make three times the difference in the fight against hunger this holiday season, visit Feeding America’s Give A Meal page. 100% of donations will go to Feeding America and local food banks.

*One hundred percent of the donations made, as well as the corporate match, will be contributed to Feeding America or the local food banks supported by Feeding America. The Bank of America Charitable Foundation will match, two-to-one, each individual donation (up to $10,000 of each such donation per donor on an aggregate basis) made to Feeding America through the Give a Meal™ program before January 7, 2013, up to a maximum total match of $1,500,000.
