Purple Heart, new home: A home in the Bronx is donated to a wounded vet

Jul 11, 2013

On a bright, sunny day in June, Semisi “T” Tokailagi and his wife Miriama were given a new home in the Harding Park section of the Bronx. Tokailagi, who hails from Fiji, was an E4 Specialist with the U.S. Army; he was wounded in Afghanistan and received a Purple Heart. That day, New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi was on hand to welcome the Tokailagis to their new neighborhood and a crowd of volunteers was there to start the construction process. The home was donated by Bank of America through the Military Warriors Support Foundation, a nonprofit that helps wounded veterans successfully re-enter civilian life. Last year, Bank of America made a three-year pledge to donate up to 1,000 properties to military vets and first responders.
