More than 220 students, from 40 communities across the U.S., came together in Washington, D.C. for the 2013 Bank of America Student Leaders Summit. Through our Student Leaders® program and our Summer Youth Employment Initiative, we provided summer jobs to nearly 1,300 young people—offering not only a paycheck, but also financial education and mentoring. Connecting young people to opportunities that give them exposure to the workforce, financial education, and leadership skills is part of our overall effort to help provide pathways to employment and better economic futures.
The Student Leaders Summit gives young people an opportunity to connect with other civic-minded peers and learn more about how to improve their communities. As part of our signature Student Leaders program, the summit includes sessions on financial education, leadership training, a service project and meetings with legislators and their staff members.
Since 2004, through the Student Leaders program, we have helped more than 1,800 high school students from across the United States develop as the next generation of community leaders. These highly motivated young people are recognized for their commitment to community service and provided with paid summer jobs at local nonprofits in addition to participation in the annual leadership summit.
