David C. Darnell | Vice Chairman
David C. Darnell is vice chairman of Bank of America and is a member of the company’s executive management team. In this role, he is responsible for the bank’s Global Wealth and Investment Management division, which includes Merrill Lynch Wealth Management and U.S. Trust. Together, the wealth management businesses represent one of the largest firms in the world with $2.5 trillion in total client balances and nearly 17,000 Wealth Advisors. Darnell also works across the company to execute our customer strategy and develop relationships with key clients throughout the U.S.
Previously, Darnell was co-chief operating officer, which, in addition to his current responsibilities, included managing Bank of America’s Retail and Preferred and Small Business Banking businesses, serving one out every two households in the U.S. In this role, he was responsible for the company’s coast-to-coast banking center, contact center and ATM networks and the nation’s leading digital banking platform. Prior to his role as co-COO, he was president of Global Commercial Banking, leading a team of commercial banking professionals who provide integrated delivery of the bank’s capabilities to one in three mid-size businesses across the U.S. In addition, Darnell has held a variety of other leadership positions including Middle Market Banking group president; Central Banking group president; Midwest Region president; and Florida Commercial Division executive. He joined the bank in 1979 as a credit analyst in Greensboro, N.C.
Darnell serves on the board of directors of Watsco, Inc. and the American Bankers Association. He is a member of the National Urban League and Queens University of Charlotte board of trustees, and serves on the national board of the Museum of Science and Industry.
