Andrea B. Smith, Chief Administrative Officer

Andrea B. Smith is Bank of America’s chief administrative officer and a member of the company’s executive management team. In this role, Smith brings together several critical functions that drive the business strategy for the company.

As CAO, Smith is responsible for Global Corporate Strategy, which guides the company’s efforts to serve customers and clients through our eight lines of business. She also leads a key part of the company’s customer-focused strategy, managing the market presidents and enterprise Business and Community Engagement, which includes oversight of nearly 100 U.S. markets. In addition, Smith leads Legacy Asset Servicing; Global Corporate Services; and Global Corporate Security, Executive Protection and Aviation. Smith will also assume full responsibility for the company’s Comprehensive Capital and Review (CCAR) and Global Resolution and Recovery Planning (GRRP) work following a transition period over the next several months.

Smith joined Bank of America in 1988 and has held a range of leadership positions in global human resources. She served most recently as global head of human resources, where she transformed many of the bank’s human resources efforts including hiring, benefits, and diversity and inclusion. Prior to that, Smith held a variety of roles in human resources, including executive roles for Global Banking and Markets, Global Commercial Banking, Global Wealth and Investment Management, Global Technology and Operations, and the Chief Administrative Officer group. She also led Global Staffing and Global Learning for the company.

Smith actively promotes the company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion internally and externally, including serving as a member of the company’s Global Diversity and Inclusion Council.

She serves on the board of directors for Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, a national nonprofit committed to raising funds for research to develop new, improved treatments for pediatric cancer. Smith is also active in the Charlotte community, serving on the board of directors for the Charlotte Ballet, Charlotte Sports Foundation, and the board of trustees for Discovery Place and Thompson Child & Family Focus. Smith is on the executive committee for the Charlotte Chamber and will serve as chairman of the Charlotte Chamber in 2017.
