Compared to last year, food banks report an average increase of 70% in demand for food assistance
An estimated 40% of the people served are new to food bank support
Since this crisis began, we've seen those numbers increase dramatically.
In fact we’ve seen those numbers increase by about 70% on average across the whole country, and of that 70 percent increase, at least 40 percent are people who didn’t ever imagine that they would need to turn to us to feed themselves and their families.

TITLE CARD:
To help with this critical need, Bank of America provided a $1 million grant to Feeding America
That is a really really big number and we're working really hard to make certain that we can serve all of them and serve them well.
B-roll: aerial shot of cars lined up to receive food donation

B-Roll: Man wearing face mask handing out food to a child
B-Roll: people loading food into trunks of cars
B-Roll: thank you sign on windshield
You will see often in media coverage that there'll be lines of cars.
That's because, we have been, purposefully trying to engage in and …social separation and… really good health care practices.
Rather than having someone from the community come into our distribution center, or pantry, to receive their food, we instead have very low-contact distributions, where people drive up, they open their trunks, we provide the food inside of their trunks, and then they're able to safely motor away.

Around our network we've come to characterize our needs across three categories: Funds, food and friends.

If you have the capacity to give we've made a commitment that every single penny that is received through that fund will go directly into communities who are impacted.…
The second thing that we ask, is that you find your local food bank— and find out what it is that they need, right there, on the ground in the community that you care so much about.
