Volunteering

WE ARE HANDS ON IN BUILDING STRONGER COMMUNITIES IN LATIN AMERICA

We value volunteerism because it gives our people another way to live out our commitment to help build stronger communities around the world – including building better money habits and creating valuable community connections. More than 54,000 volunteered 2 million hours globally in 2016 to help strengthen our communities.

Our volunteering program in Latin America offers a variety of life experiences, direct social contributions to those in greater need, and skills-based opportunities that enable our employees to share professional knowledge. In 2016, our employees in Latin America donated more than 6,000 hours.

Across our offices in Latin America, we have established a volunteer network that enables us to build transitional houses for those in need with the support of TECHO, a nonprofit organization that mobilizes volunteers to fight extreme poverty in Latin America, by constructing transitional housing and implementing social inclusion programs. As the first regional partner of TECHO in Latin America, Bank of America Merrill Lynch has been supporting the organization for seven years, helping to build more than 30 houses in the region in the past year alone.

Additionally, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Santo Caos, an engagement consulting agency, have created the most in-depth study of its kind for the Brazilian market. The study shows that corporate volunteering has great impact for both companies and employees and benefits the business. For example, the study found for 89% of the managers interviewed, corporate volunteering furthers professional development, while 62% of the volunteers interviewed said that a good volunteer program makes a difference when choosing where to work. The results also show that employees who participate in corporate volunteering activities are 16% more engaged and committed to the company. Learn more.
