Runners came out of hibernation for the 40th annual Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle

Thousands of runners were welcomed at the 40th Annual Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle, in Grant Park, on Sunday, March 24th. The race offered runners a unique opportunity to tour Chicago’s Loop, complete with architectural wonders and flat streets. The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K also featured a two-mile untimed walk, which was ideal for aspiring runners and a great family activity.

Celebrating its 40th year, the Shamrock Shuffle brought the city together for a fun and festive way to kick off the spring running season and keep the St. Patrick’s Day spirit alive. With this winter reaching record-low temperatures, it’s a running tradition that many were looking forward to more than ever.

The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K race welcomed participants ranging from Olympic-caliber athletes to those targeting the Bank of America Chicago Marathon in October to beginners looking for an enjoyable way to spend a Sunday with friends. The result was a fun-filled race weekend celebrating health, hopefully warmer weather and Chicago’s vibrant running community.

With a majority of Shamrock Shufflers coming from Chicago and its surrounding suburbs, the popular race has become a fixture for the city’s running community and one of the most enjoyable ways for participants, spectators and volunteers to celebrate the change of season.
