Celebrating five years of Global Builds in Partnership with Habitat for Humanity

For more than 30 years, Bank of America has advanced economic and social progress through our partnership with Habitat for Humanity. In September 2018, we kicked off our fifth Habitat Global Build, a week-long initiative to build affordable housing and engage in other community projects around the world. The week is a testament to the dedication of our volunteers who roll up their sleeves alongside working families and community partners to create secure, affordable housing for those in need.

2018 Global Build

The 2018 build and revitalization projects were planned in more than 100 communities across seven countries ― China/Hong Kong, Indonesia, Ireland, Australia, Canada, and the U.S. ― engaging close to 2,500 employees. Within each community, builds had their own unique aspects that often included additional partners and themes:

  • In Connecticut, nearly 60 employees volunteered during Global Build Week, in a home build in Bridgeport, as well as the construction of playhouses, which once completed, will be auctioned off with all proceeds benefitting Habitat for Humanity of Hartford. In addition, Bank of America is providing over $60,000 in funding to six local Habitat for Humanity chapters across the state.
  • In San Gabriel Valley, CA, employee volunteers worked with their local Habitat affiliates and homeowners to build six new homes. At the event, the Bank of America team presented Habitat with a $40,000 check to continue their work in the community.

Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity International is one of the world’s largest housing-focused nonprofits, with nearly 1,400 local affiliates in 70 countries around the world. We’ve partnered with Habitat for more than 30 years, investing nearly $80 million in funding to help create affordable housing, as well as volunteer efforts in local markets and regions.

Each year, employees generously give around 40,000 hours in volunteer time, support Habitat affiliates through board service, and lead home build initiatives and financial literacy training for future homeowners. During the 2017 Global Build, more than 2,500 Bank of America employees volunteered with Habitat in 80 communities across six countries.

“Our commitment to economic mobility is exemplified by partnerships with organizations like Habitat,” said Kerry Sullivan, president of the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. “Through this 32-year partnership, employees around the world have worked to revitalize communities by helping families in need of a safe and decent place to live.”
