Focusing on Responsible Growth in EMEA

How do individuals and institutions harness the power of capital markets to do good in the world? And what is the connection between social benefit and sound financial performance?

These are questions we have explored in recent years. As publicly communicated by our CEO, our environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices are central to our focus on Responsible Growth. For our business in EMEA this thinking is especially important given our Global Banking and Markets client-base.

As one of Europe’s largest and most successful participants in both debt and equity origination, we recognize the crucial role we play in tackling financial solutions for some of the world’s most pressing environmental and social concerns. For us to help our clients succeed amid continued market volatility, changing regulatory landscapes and an ever-complex global political arena, we recognize the importance of constantly evolving our business models and embedding ESG factors into our review of risk and opportunity.

Across the region, we aim to ensure our clients not only benefit from a range of leading products and services, but are also provided a holistic understanding of the ESG factors that drive business decisions. Over recent years, we’ve seen a step-change in how our clients in EMEA view ESG, and today responsible business practices and a long-term view are becoming key elements of companies’ performance.

Year-over-year we continue to drive responsible growth by investing in our people and our communities and strengthening our ESG governance. Examples include our Environmental and Social Risk Policy Framework which outlines how our company approaches business risks related to environmental and social issues across all lines of business. Additionally, our Modern Slavery Act Statement explains how we guard against modern slavery and human trafficking within our supply chain.

Our ESG practices are central to growing in a sustainable manner. For us, that is responsible growth.
