Connecting race fans to the Bank of America 500

Both the motorsports industry and Bank of America have deep roots in North Carolina.

Bank of America has been the title sponsor of the NASCAR playoff race in Charlotte since 2006. Held in mid-October at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the Bank of America 500 attracts tourists from across the United States to visit the heart of motorsports country as drivers compete in the series playoffs.

“This race weekend brings the best drivers and teams together to showcase our state’s homegrown sport to fans across the country,” said Bank of America Charlotte Market President Charles Bowman.

New this year, Bank of America will be connecting race fans to the action through an interactive display at the track’s Fan Zone. Fans will have the opportunity to experience what it feels like to race the Bank of America 500 through a simulated version of it through the NASCAR HEAT 2 video game.

Fans will also learn the important role that team spotters play in the race, relaying information to drivers to alert them of what’s occurring on the track. Through the bank’s spotter challenge game, fans will be paired up to see if they can successfully maneuver a car along a track.

“We’re excited to better connect our fans with the race this year while also highlighting the excitement of what’s to come,” Bowman said. “Racing is more than a sport, it’s a way of life for many and a critical economic driver for the region that we’re proud to support.”

The motorsports industry contributes $6 billion to the economy of North Carolina each year, according to the North Carolina Motorsports Association. Bank of America’s sponsorship of the race, as well as its relationship with Hendrick Motorsports and the NASCAR Hall of Fame are examples of support for the continued growth of a homegrown industry.
