Celebrating a uniquely American art form

COUNTRY MUSIC, a new eight-part, 16-hour documentary by Ken Burns, written and produced by Dayton Duncan, and produced by Julie Dunfey of Florentine Films and underwritten by Bank of America, will air/stream on PBS on 9/15. The series chronicles the origin of country music, the rise of this uniquely American art form throughout the 20th century, and its moving exploration of the hardships and joys shared by everyday Americans.

COUNTRY MUSIC is the latest chapter in Bank of America’s long-time partnership with Ken Burns, just one way we foster understanding of our shared history to build stronger communities able to tackle today’s most pressing challenges. We view the series as an opportunity to celebrate our nation’s heritage, the strength of our diversity, and music’s power to unite, inspire, and ultimately tell deeply human stories.

These ten teaser videos provide a first look at COUNTRY MUSIC, which includes intimate interviews with more than 80 country music artists and some never-before-seen photographs. They examine how the genre defied racial, gender, and cultural divides while growing into a storytelling medium, which gave those whom were socially or economically disenfranchised a voice during a pivotal century in our young nation’s history.
