Connecting Philadelphia’s Youth to the Workforce
Dec 17, 2013
The Philadelphia Youth Network (PYN) is a nationally recognized organization dedicated to improving the economic and education outcomes of Philadelphia’s youth. Along with their partners, PYN is putting the talent and drive of young people to work as contributing members of the global economy. “One of our main motivations is to serve as advocates for the youth of the city,” said Stephanie Gambone, executive vice president of PYN.
PYN serves as the managing partner of WorkReady Philadelphia, a cross-sector partnership that provides thousands of young people with career exposure and preparation opportunities each year. Since 2007, Bank of America has invested in WorkReady Philadelphia by supporting 172 summer employment opportunities. The bank provided funding for 41 work experiences for youth in 2013 alone.
In turn, PYN has hosted interns from the bank’s Student Leaders program since 2011. The program awards paid summer internships with local nonprofit organizations to high school juniors and seniors committed to community service. “Bank of America really understands the importance of education and workforce development here in the city,” said Gambone. “We’re happy to be partnering with them to provide career-connected opportunities for Philadelphia’s young people.”
The partnership between PYN and Bank of America, especially through Student Leaders, has helped numerous youth in Philadelphia achieve success in the workplace. “We've heard from PYN how much they value our five students,” said Debbie O’Brien, Bank of America Market Manager for Philadelphia. “And I know they provide a lot of value to the organization. It’s definitely a win-win – a win all around.”
