Bank of America’s rich history in North Carolina began more than 130 years ago. In 1874, a small group of Charlotte residents started Commercial National Bank to meet the needs of the fast-growing city. Eventually, Commercial National merged with other North Carolina banks to form the North Carolina National Bank (NCNB) and then NationsBank. Today’s Bank of America is still headquartered in Charlotte and has grown to become one of the nation’s largest financial institutions, providing services to half of all American households.
