Treating the world as our neighbor

As a global company we have the ability — and a responsibility — to help meet various needs in the communities we serve. We do so on many different challenges, from helping build stronger economies to stepping in when natural disasters happen to our teammates and others.

Whether it’s close to home or halfway around the world, we use our reach and resources to provide disaster relief, fight hunger and meet other basic needs. We also invest in communities with various programs that provide capital and training for small businesses, affordable housing for families and create economic opportunity for individuals.

To have the most success and impact, we often partner with nonprofits and other local organizations — like Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) — that have specific expertise on an issue or geographic area. We want our efforts to be efficient and effective, reaching many people with sustainable solutions.

Affordable homes for families

“Since I moved here, I feel proud of myself and it’s starting to show with myself and with my relationship with my daughter. I want her to just be the best her and the only way that she can do that is if she sees me being the best me.”

Taylor Allen | Resident at the Dr. Lena Frances Edwards Apartments

From the Dr. Lena Frances Edwards Apartments in Jersey City to other projects nationwide, we help build affordable housing that lets residents establish roots and create a more secure future. The impact ripples beyond the building, too, strengthening the surrounding communities and helping them build affordable housing.

Capital for small businesses

By partnering with Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) around the country, we contribute to a host of economic development initiatives in underserved neighborhoods. Because the CDFI’s know their local communities well, our job is to connect them with funding, donate money for operating costs and consult with them on how to help small businesses grow.

Disaster relief and crisis support

We proactively support our clients, teammates and communities during humanitarian crises, civil strife and disasters. Some of the ways we offer our support are:

  • Our Client Assistance Program offers assistance by continuing to provide access to their important financial services
  • We work to ensure the safety and security of our employees, and offer a variety of support programs to help those impacted by disasters, including grants from our Employee Relief Fund and assistance from our Life Event Services team
  • Our Charitable Foundation provides relief and recovery funds for communities impacted by hurricanes, earthquakes and other crises

Helping fight hunger

We support many charities’ efforts to reduce hunger and look to a future where no one goes without. Millions of people in the U.S. are unsure how they’ll get their next meal. From coast to coast, we partner with dedicated nonprofits that feed working families, children, the elderly and other at-risk groups.

Habitat for Humanity partnership

To advance economic and social progress in communities from America to Indonesia, we've been a Habitat for Humanity partner for 30+ years. Besides investing nearly $80+ million to help create affordable housing, Bank of America encourages and supports our employees to volunteer around 35,000 total hours per year.

In September 2018, thousands of our teammates took part in our fifth Habitat Global Build. It’s a worldwide, week-long effort to build affordable housing and participate in other community-enhancing projects.

Fighting for global health on all fronts

Vulnerable communities around the world, including people living with HIV/AIDS, have been disproportionally impacted by the coronavirus which threatens to destroy years’ worth of progress in the fight against AIDS. It has become clear that we cannot win the fight against one pandemic without combatting the other.

Bank of America proudly supports (RED)’s efforts in the global COVID response. Our commitment of $35 million to the Global Fund will help to fight both pandemics — funding AIDS prevention and treatment and helping to provide equitable access to COVID testing, treatment and personal protection equipment. There has never been a more important time for companies to step up to join the fight against these global health emergencies.
