African American Museum in Philadelphia

Beginning June 19, 2009, visitors to the African American Museum in Philadelphia will experience cutting-edge technology while immersing themselves in the next level of the museum experience with the opening of Audacious Freedom: The History of African Americans in Philadelphia 1776–1876. This state-of-the-art interactive exhibit will use a blend of technology, primary source material, artifacts and stunning graphics to provide insight into a perspective of American history that has rarely been told. Founded in 1976 in celebration of the nation's Bicentennial, the African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP) is the first institution funded and built by a major municipality to preserve, interpret and exhibit the heritage of African Americans. Throughout its evolution, the museum has objectively interpreted and presented the achievements and aspirations of African Americans from precolonial times to the current day.

Albany Institute of History & Art

Founded in 1791, the Albany Institute of History & Art has been collecting for over 200 years. Its collections document the Hudson Valley as a crossroads of cultures, influencing the art and history of the region, the state and the nation. Albuquerque Museum

Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art

Founded by art collector and fashion designer Larry Aldrich in 1964, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum is one of the oldest contemporary art museums in the United States. The Museum is one of the few independent, non-collecting institutions in the country and the only museum in Connecticut solely dedicated to the presentation of contemporary art.

Anchorage Museum

Arab American National Museum

Located amid the largest concentration of Arab Americans in the U.S., the Arab American National Museum (AANM) is the only one of America's 21,000 museums to celebrate the history, culture and contributions of Arab Americans. Art Institute of Chicago

Arte Américas

Arte Américas is a 18,619 sq.ft. center (including 700 capacity outdoor Plaza), more than three decades old, and located in the Cultural Arts District downtown since its founding in1987. The venue hosts regular summer concerts, community events, and art exhibits featuring local & international artists. Regular performances include danzantes folkloricos, Mariachi ensembles, as well as films and presentations by Latinx poets, authors, writers, novelists and videographers.

Asheville Museum of Science

Autry Museum of the American West

Bechtler Museum of Modern Art

The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art is dedicated to the exhibition of mid-20th-century modern art. It is named after the family of Andreas Bechtler, a Charlotte resident and native of Switzerland who assembled and inherited a collection of more than 1,400 artworks created by major figures in modernism. The collection comprises artworks by seminal figures such as Alberto Giacometti, Joan Mir, Jean Tinguely, Max Ernst, Andy Warhol, Le Corbusier, Sol LeWitt, Nicolas de Stal, Barbara Hepworth and Pablo Picasso. A museum store and cafe are located on the lobby level.

Boise Art Museum

Briscoe Western Art Museum

The Briscoe Western Art Museum, named in honor of the late Texas Governor, Dolph Briscoe, Jr. and his wife, Janey, preserves and interprets the art, history, and culture of the American West through engaging exhibitions, educational programs, and public events reflective of the region’s rich traditions and shared heritage. The collection and programs bring to life the four main tenants of Western art: cowboys, Indians, landscapes, and wildlife. Located on San Antonio’s famed River Walk, the institution is housed in San Antonio’s first Public Library and includes the Jack Guenther Pavilion and the adjacent McNutt Sculpture Garden.

Brooklyn Museum

Bruce Museum

Consistently voted the "Best Museum" by area media, the Bruce Museum is a regionally based, world-class institution highlighting art, science and natural history in more than a dozen changing exhibitions annually. Permanent galleries feature the natural sciences encompassing regional to global perspectives. A private home deeded to the Town of Greenwich in 1908, with the stipulation that it be used as a natural history, historical, and art museum for the use and benefit of the public," the first exhibition was mounted in 1912. The Bruce Museum celebrated its centennial in 2012.

Buffalo Museum of Science

Bullock Texas State History Museum

The museum includes three floors of exhibitions, an IMAX® theater a 4D special-effects theater, a café and a museum store. Named for the state's 38th Lieutenant Governor, Bob Bullock, who worked to establish the museum, the iconic building is located in the heart of downtown Austin.

California Automobile Museum

The mission of the California Automobile Museum is to preserve, exhibit and teach the story of the automobile and its influence on our lives. Many of the cars are set off in eye-catching displays, as a place to educate people about cars; to tell the story of the development of the automobile and its effect on our lives. With over 130 vehicles, including a 1933 KB Lincoln Automobile once owned by A.P. Giannini, the founder of Bank of Italy, and rotating and special exhibits, our collection provides a truly unique automotive experience for our visitors.

California Living Museum

One of the four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Museum of Art was founded by industrialist Andrew Carnegie in 1895 and is nationally and internationally recognized for its distinguished collection of contemporary art. Cox Science Center and Aquarium

Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens

Currier Museum of Art

Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum

Founded in 1984 by Holocaust survivors, the Dallas Holocaust Museum/Center for Education and Tolerance is dedicated to teaching the history of the Holocaust and advancing human rights to combat prejudice, hatred, and indifference. Located in Dallas’ Historic West End, the Museum hosts more than 85,000 visitors annually, half of whom are students. North Texas is home to just over 50 survivors, refugees and hidden children from the Holocaust.

de Young Museum

Participation note: The de Young Museum will not participate in the Museums on Us program on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8. Founded in 1895 in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, the de Young Museum showcases American art from the 17th through the 21st centuries; international textile arts and costumes; and art from the Americas, the Pacific, and Africa. The de Young Museum reopened in October of 2005 in a new facility that integrates art, architecture and the natural landscape in one multifaceted destination that will inspire audiences from around the world.

Delaware Art Museum (Saturdays only)

Founded in 1912, the Delaware Art Museum possesses America's largest British Pre-Raphaelite collection, which recently returned home from a triumphant international tour. Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield Farms

Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms encompasses 700 acres of open space southwest of Denver, offering nature trails, native plant and vegetable gardens, trial research gardens, educational exhibits, the historical ranch house and school house, and 50 acres of wetland and riparian zones. Chatfield Farms grows produce for the Gardens’ community supported agriculture program and farm stands, which sell vegetables and offer nutritional education in food desert communities.

Denver Museum of Nature & Science

Greenwood Rising Black Wall St. History Center chronicles this story of Tulsa, Oklahoma's iconic African American neighborhood. During the era of segregation before 1920, black migrants and entrepreneurs came to the Tulsa region and built a vibrant, thriving, self-sufficient economic community, affectionately known as "Black Wall Street." Hudson River Maritime Museum

Through creative programming and scholarship, the museum provides the opportunity for people to encounter, engage and enjoy a diversity of art experiences. The museum features exhibitions by national and international artists with a permanent collection of 19th-through 21st-century art. Divided into five focus collections, the permanent collection is unified by an overall emphasis on art and environment: The Altered Landscape: Carol Franc Buck Photography Collection; Contemporary Collection; Sierra Nevada/Great Basin Collection; Historical Collection; and the E.L. The Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience is dedicated to immersing people in uniquely American stories of survival, success, struggle, conflict, compassion and hope. The museum is in the heart of Seattle's vibrant Chinatown-International District, and includes the very hotel where countless immigrants first found a home, a meal and refuge. As our nation's only museum devoted to the Asian Pacific American experience, it's one of the few places that can truly give you a new perspective on what it means to be American. The Wing is a National Park Service Affiliated Area, a Smithsonian Affiliate, and the only pan-Asian Pacific American museum in the nation.

Witte Museum

Founded in 1926 along the beautiful San Antonio River in Brackenridge Park, the Witte Museum focuses on natural history, science and South Texas heritage. The Witte is home to historic artifacts, Texas art, textiles, dinosaur bones, cave drawings, wildlife dioramas, the H-E-B Science Treehouse, blockbuster traveling exhibits and the recently opened 20,000-square-foot South Texas Heritage Center, which tells the story of this wild and vivid land through a remarkable collection of artifacts and historical narratives.

Woolaroc Museum & Wildlife Preserve

Founded in 1925 by oilman Frank Phillips, Woolaroc is a 3,700-acre wildlife preserve, museum, and historic lodge home located in the beautiful rolling hills of Osage County. The 50,000-square foot museum has one of the world’s finest collections of southwest art, Native American artifacts, Colt Firearms, and much more. The preserve is home to over 30 species of animals including bison, elk, longhorns, and scotch highland cattle. Woolaroc has been described as one of the most unique destinations in the country, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
