Supporting communities impacted by disaster

The wildfires in California have had a devastating impact on communities that we care deeply about and are committed to supporting. We serve our clients in these neighborhoods, and many of our teammates and their families live and work there too. The impact of these disasters is personal to us.

“We will do all we can to help bring relief to the individuals, families, customers and communities that will continue to be impacted by the unprecedented damage these fires are wreaking across the region,” said Janet Lamkin, California state market president at Bank of America.

We have a longstanding commitment to responding to communities in times of disaster, whether natural disasters or man-made, humanitarian crises and civil strife. It’s one of the ways we help advance economic and social progress as part of our approach to responsible growth.

We’re helping our clients and teammates by leveraging our resources to assist individuals as they navigate a difficult time, and we’re working with nonprofit partners on the ground to help communities recover and rebuild.

How we’re helping our clients

  • We can help any clients experiencing distress. Assistance is available to impacted clients regardless of their locations.
  • We’re also using our online and social media channels to stay in touch with our clients (including bankofamerica.com, @BofA_News and Facebook).
  • Finally, we’ve set up a priority assistance line 855.729.1764 for affected clients, so they can speak with a Bank of America representative right away.

How we’re helping our teammates

  • We’ve worked to ensure the safety and security of our employees, and we’re offering a variety of support programs to help those impacted, including grants from our Employee Relief Fund and assistance from our Life Event Services team.

How we’re helping communities impacted by the wildfires

  • We've pledged $200,000 to support relief and recovery in the regions affected, including $100,000 to the American Red Cross for immediate needs.
  • To date, our employees have contributed more than $7,000 toward disaster relief which will be matched through our charitable foundation for a total impact of more than $14,000 in support. In order to increase the impact of employee giving toward disaster relief, we’ve lowered the minimum amount eligible for a matching gift.

Collectively, Bank of America and our employees have committed nearly $5 million to support communities impacted by recent disasters including Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, the earthquakes and Hurricane Katia in Mexico, and California wildfires.
