Hard at Work in Virginia
Bank of America began serving Virginia more than 140 years ago. First National Bank of Richmond opened its doors in 1865 just a week after the end of the Civil War in the only building left standing in Richmond’s financial district. It joined Merchants National Bank in 1926, which became part of Sovran Bank in 1963. It entered the Bank of America family in 1990 when C&S Sovran merged with NCNB to become NationsBank. Today, Bank of America is one of the nation’s largest financial institutions and provides services to half of all American households.
*Extended $183 million in new credit to Virginia small businesses in 2012.
