Supporting the Troops with MLB®

Jul 23, 2012

During the 83rd MLB All–Star Game® in Kansas City, Bank of America, the Official Bank of Major League Baseball®, invited the community to help honor members of America’s military for their service.

At banking centers and at All–Star FanFest®, a baseball–themed family festival, fans signed baseballs with words of support and thanks that were used to create a giant mosaic that was donated to USO Fort Riley for display at the center. Also at Kauffman Stadium, where the All–Star Game was held, fans had the opportunity to hit a ball over a military vehicle for a home run. For each signed ball and each home run, Bank of America contributed $1 to USO Fort Riley—for a donation totaling $20,000. The money will go toward programs and services for America’s troops and their families at Fort Riley.

Local military families were also treated to free FanFest tickets, and 20 kids from Fort Riley played a special game on the Aquafina Diamond during Military Appreciation Day, presented by Bank of America on opening day at the festival. A dream came true for four military kids who had the opportunity to shag balls on the field during the MLB State Farm Home Run Derby®.

The bank also partnered with MLB and the Kansas City Royals and funded $66,000 towards a local Rebuilding Together service project benefiting the Kansas City VA Honor Annex, a new outpatient facility that will house specialized programs for veterans such as mental health services, including Post–Traumatic Stress Disorder, women’s healthcare and primary care. Over 100 employee volunteers spent 500 hours assisting with painting, landscape and other projects at the center.

The bank has been a supporter of the military since 1920, providing specialized financial services to active and veteran service members and philanthropic support to military–based organizations. The bank currently offers specialized mortgage support and programs for military customers and their families, including a dedicated mortgage servicing unit and, through partnerships with non–profit organizations, has donated homes to service members returning from active duty.

Since 2009, the bank has provided nearly $5 million in grants for nonprofits that directly serve members of the military, including the USO, Operation Homefront, Wounded Warrior Project and Homes for our Troops. Currently, more than 5,000 military service members and veterans have been hired to work for the bank.

Bank of America is the Official Bank of Major League Baseball®, and a sponsor of the Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants.
