Hard at Work in Missouri
Bank of America began serving Missouri more than 160 years ago. George Budd founded Boatmen’s Savings Institution to provide a safe place for steamboat men and other workers to save their money. By the 1890s, the bank began introducing special services for female customers and began hiring women in 1917. Boatmen’s eventually expanded to nine states and joined the Bank of America family when NationsBank acquired it in 1997. Today, Bank of America is one of the nation’s largest financial institutions and provides services to half of all American households.
